CLOUD NEWS
Welcoming in the New Year
We are starting off the new year with lots of
exciting news to share with you! First, we would like to thank Leah Mayor for her dedication to
fulfilling the mission of The Cloud Institute. For the past three years, Leah
has been instrumental in growing and securing funding for our New Jersey Learns and SoL Education Partnership programs. We wish her well as she begins a new chapter in her professional
life--she will be missed.
Welcoming a
New Team Member | Moira N. Wilkenson,
Ed.D.
Moira
N. Wilkenson has dedicated herself to improving the quality and relevance of public education, domestically and internationally, throughout her
career. For the last five years, Moira has been teaching teachers at the City College of New York and, for the last four,
she has been consulting with UNICEF, advocating for equal educational rights for girls and boys globally. Please
join us in welcoming her to the position of Senior Director of Education
& Research!
Healthy Commons
| TheFree TerraCycle Curriculum Developed by The Cloud Institute
After a slight delay, we are excited to announce the launch of our second
lesson set, "Healthy Commons," in the TerraCycle Curriculum
Series. This free curriculum provides new learning experiences for students and
teachers to educate for sustainability.
Released three times a year,
each TerraCycle Curriculum Lesson Set focuses on a particular topic and its relationship to the materials cycle.
Each set in the four grade-appropriate lessons (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12),
include tailored lessons that have been aligned to The Cloud Institute’s Education for Sustainability (EfS) Standards, meet the McRel National Standards, and
meet Common Core State Standards.
We invite you to use our curriculum in your classroom, and share your
experience with us! In addition to the curriculum, we have
provided a feedback form--we'd love to hear from you!

the Date | Upcoming Cloud Workshops
We have several exciting workshops that we'd love to add to your
calendar!
March
1st. 9am - 4:30pm | Healthy Commons Workshop. The first of nine EfS Content Standard workshops, this workshop introduces participants to the “Commons” in their own life and communities. Participants begin by exploring the differences between public and private property and understanding the concept of the Commons, and then explore the characteristics of the Commons in communities. Using this knowledge, participants explore their own communities and look for evidence of the Commons.

being a leader in your community's shift toward sustainability? We
are looking for diverse individuals and teams to join our 2011-2012 New
Jersey Learns Program. To learn more about the program, and to apply

Digi
IF | Program Update
We are thrilled to announce that our Digi IF program, a six-week digital version of our Inventing the
Future: Leadership and Participation for the 21st Century curriculum,
kicked off in early January.
Digi IF is offered in partnership with iEARN,
a non-profit organization that empowers teachers and students to work
together using new communication technologies. High school
students from the US and abroad explore and
discuss the multifaceted concepts of "community" and their roles in creating a sustainable
future via online discussion forums and assignments. In addition to weekly
posting assignments,
and contributing peer-to-peer feedback, students will participate in two
live webinar sessions facilitated by our Lead Sustainability Educator, Aleidria
Lichau. The program provides students with a process to develop
action plans for their communities that have realistic goals and
timelines so that they can achieve their visions for a sustainable
future.
At the culmination of the program, students are invited to present their work at the iEARN YouthCan Conference in
April. Their achieved action plans and visions for a sustainable future will be compiled into an "Inventing the Future: Leadership and Participation for the 21st Century"
booklet to inspire and encourage us all.
