CLOUD NEWS

Website Re-launch
After months of research, planning and development, we are excited to announce the re-launch of our website, www.cloudinstitute.org.

The new website delivers timely, well-organized information about our work in Education for Sustainability. The site is easier to navigate and allows for more opportunities for us to interact with you! Most excitingly, we have added a new "blog" feature. Here, we will share ideas, stories, videos and other resources about our work and the work that inspires us.

Over the next few weeks, we will continue to improve the site and begin populating the blog with the stories that inspire you. We hope you enjoy the new look and find it useful and informative. We invite you to come back often to check out the latest developments, and to share with us your feedback.

We are Hiring

After three years of service, Leah Mayor will be leaving The Cloud Institute. Since joining the organization in 2007, Leah has been instrumental in both growing and securing funding for our New Jersey Learns and SoL Education Partnership programs. We wish her well as she begins a new chapter in her professional life.

As Leah begins her next journey, we are currently accepting applications for the open position of Director of Education and Research. View the full job description and apply online at www.cloudinstitute.org/careers

Healthy Commons - Cloud-TerraCycle Curricula Available December 1st
Once again, we have joined forces with TerraCycle Inc. to provide new learning experiences for students and teachers to educate for sustainability by exploring the materials cycle. On December 1st, the second series in our Cloud-TerraCycle K-12 curriculum set, "Healthy Commons," will be available for free download!

We have organized the interdisciplinary lessons by grade level groups: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. They meet the Common Core State Standards and have been aligned to our EfS Content Standards and Performance Indicators.

We invite you to use our curricula in your classroom, adapt it, and share your adaptations through our TerraCycle group on Curriki (also free). Share with us your stories and student work and we may feature your story on our blog! Can't wait to get started? Download our first K-12 Cloud-TerraCycle curriculum set, "Natural Laws and Principles of the Materials Cycle" here.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

"Inventing the Future" Goes Digital
We are preparing to launch "Digtal IF," an interactive version of our Inventing the Future curriculum. "Digital IF" provides a unique opportunity for students to participate in live dialogue with experts from the fields of leadership and participation, and lead culturally diverse discussions with their peers via online discussion forums.

The program is interactive and allows students to explore and articulate what makes communities sustainable; use systems thinking; and generate a plan for action in their communities. Currently, there are two spots left available for interested schools.

To participate, please have the school send back the following information to Kamdyn before November 19th.

1) School name
2) Location
3) Number of Students
4) Subject Area(s)
5) Age of students
6) Whether or not you fulfill the technology requirements (see technology requirements in program outline)
7) Contact information for the participating school/class

Announcement from Earthwatch - Opportunities for New Jersey Learns Participants
New Jersey Learns participants are eligible for five special fellowships to take part in an Earthwatch Expedition. Teachers of all subjects and all grade levels are encouraged to apply to the Earthwatch Educator Fellowship Program.

As an Educator Fellow, you'll participate on a fully funded expedition assignment, receive a travel stipend to offset some of your transportation costs, and bring your expedition experiences into your classroom by creating and implementing exciting community action plans that reflect the knowledge gained from your time in the field. Earthwatch fellowships enable critical partners to participate in research expeditions worldwide.

Each year, Earthwatch's Fellowship Programs enable hundreds of students, teachers, conservation professionals, and corporate employees to join expeditions at little or no out-of-pocket expense. Earthwatch Fellows in New Jersey will share their experiences and new knowledge with thousands of students, teachers, and colleagues upon their return. For more information about applying to be an Earthwatch Fellow please visit their website.
